What is the Chart of Accounts?

The Chart of Accounts (`Accounting > Chart of Accounts`) is the list of categories you assign transactions to. Its subtitle reads "Organize your income, expense, and balance-sheet accounts." Accounts are arranged in five tabs – Assets, Liabilities & Credit Cards, Income, Expenses and Equity – each showing a count, and inside each tab they are grouped by account type (for example Operating Expense or Cost of Goods Sold), with a question-mark tooltip explaining what each type is for. Each row shows the account ID, Account name and Description, a rules button (Auto-categorization rules) and, for editable accounts, an Edit account pencil. Your connected bank and credit-card accounts also live here, under Cash and Bank – in the current version every Plaid-linked account (including credit cards) is filed under Cash and Bank, not split out into the separate Credit Card group.
