Typing a code into the checkout code box checks it two ways: if it matches an unredeemed Gift Card, the card's value is instantly credited to your account balance/wallet (and the card is marked redeemed) rather than applied as a line-item discount. If it matches a Coupon instead, it's added to your cart's coupon list (see the Coupons Q&As).
