"No assigned role" is a built-in placeholder you can use when an employee or shift does not map to a specific job role. On an employee it lets you record a default Hourly Rate without a role; on a shift or timecard it means the work is not attributed to a role (the timesheet Role column then shows "No assigned role"). For open shifts the equivalent option is Any Role, which notifies all active employees.
