This applies specifically to catering/event proposal checkouts: when a proposal allows partial payment, the payment page shows a "Pay Deposit" checkbox alongside "Pay Total." Checking it charges only the fixed amount or percentage the store set on that proposal now, leaving the rest as a balance the store bills you for later. On the record itself, the subtotal, tax, and discount fields for a deposit payment are recorded as $0 for the deferred portion — only the deposit amount is charged and recorded as paid at that time.
