What does 'Auto Charge On Due Date' do on a proposal, and what happens if it fails?

Auto Charge On Due Date is a checkbox on the proposal (near Due Date/Net Days). When it is on and the proposal becomes Past Due (its Due Date plus Net Days has passed while it is Signed and Approved or Partially Paid), Sprwt's daily job automatically tries to charge the customer's saved card for the remaining balance instead of just emailing a past-due notice.

  • If the charge succeeds, the payment is recorded against the proposal like any other payment.
  • If it fails, Sprwt (1) shows a red banner at the top of the proposal — Error In Auto Charging This Proposal, plus the underlying error message, (2) emails the customer and your client/admin email about the failed charge, and (3) notifies anyone added to that proposal's Proposal Team (by email, SMS, or in-app, per each member's own notification settings) so staff know to follow up and charge manually or contact the customer.

If Auto Charge is off, a Past Due proposal simply gets the payment past due reminder email instead of being charged.
