Open the field editor for a Multiple Checkboxes field or a Dropdown List field (this type is labeled "Dropown List" in the field-type picker – a typo in the product) and set Min Options to choose and Max Options to choose. For a Dropdown List, setting the max above 1 automatically turns the plain dropdown into a multi-select box. The limit is enforced live in the visitor's browser: for checkboxes, once the max is reached no more boxes can be checked; if the field is marked required, the form also re-checks the min/max count when the visitor tries to submit and blocks submission with a message until it's satisfied. This is useful for questions like "pick 2-3 dietary preferences" where a plain required checkbox isn't precise enough.
