Can I add an auto-categorization rule to a bank, asset or equity account, not just an income or expense category?

Yes. The Auto-categorization rules icon is available on every row of the Chart of Accounts, including Cash and Bank, Credit Card, Loan, Vendor Prepayments and Equity accounts, not only Income and Expense categories. In fact, in the current version most non-income/expense groups (Cash and Bank, Credit Card, Loan, other Assets, Liabilities, and Equity accounts) are valid category choices for both Deposits and Withdrawals, so a rule on one of them fires either way. Only Income and Expense categories are meaningfully direction-restricted: Income categories are used for Deposits (and partly for Withdrawals, via "Refund for income"), while Expense categories are used for Withdrawals (and partly for Deposits, via "Refund for expense"). In practice keyword and learned rules are most useful on Income and Expense categories, but nothing in the code restricts them to those groups.
